Privacy Policy

This policy covers the WASH Link Shortener web app and its browser extension. Last updated June 20, 2026.

In short: we handle only what we need to turn a link into a short link. We don’t track your browsing, we don’t sell or share your data, and we don’t use your links or their content to train AI models.

1. Who we are

The WASH Link Shortener (the “Service”) is operated by Baobab Tech, the maker of WASH AI. The Service comprises the website at wsh.link and the “WASH Link Shortener” browser extension for Chrome, Firefox, and Opera.

2. What the browser extension does

The extension has a single purpose: to shorten the URL of your current tab when you click its toolbar button. Specifically:

  • When you open the popup and click “Shorten,” the extension reads the URL of your active tab and sends it to the Service to create a short link. It reads only the tab’s URL — never the page’s content — and only in response to that click.
  • It stores one setting (the backend URL it talks to, default wsh.link) using the browser’s storage API, so people self-hosting the Service can point the extension at their own server.
  • It does not run in the background, monitor your browsing, collect your history, or inject anything into web pages.

The extension requests access to your own backend origin only if you change the backend URL in Settings — this is optional and used solely so a custom (vanity) link name can be associated with your signed-in account.

3. Data we process

  • Links you submit. The destination URL (or file you upload), the generated short code, and timestamps. For signed-in users we also count clicks on your links.
  • Account data. If you create an account, your email address (and, if you sign in with Google or LinkedIn, the basic profile that provider returns).
  • Standard request data. Like any website, our servers receive your IP address and basic request metadata, used transiently for rate limiting and security, not for tracking or profiling.

4. How we use it

We use this data only to provide the Service: creating and resolving short links, showing you your links and click counts, securing the Service, and — only if you tick “Contribute” — adding the resource to WASH AI’s public knowledge base so it’s searchable in WASH AI. We do not use it for advertising or unrelated purposes.

5. The “Contribute” option

Contributing is off unless you tick the box. When you do, you confirm you have the right to share the resource, and we fetch, store, index, and openly cite it as part of WASH AI’s knowledge base, with attribution back to the source. You can request removal at any time.

6. What we never do

  • We never sell or rent your data.
  • We never transfer your data to third parties except as needed to run the Service (e.g. our hosting and database providers acting on our behalf) or where required by law.
  • We never use your data to determine creditworthiness or for lending.
  • We never use your links or their content to train AI models.

7. Storage, retention & your rights

Data is stored on servers in the European Union. Links persist while the Service runs; you can delete your links or account, or request removal of a contributed resource, at any time. To exercise any data right, contact us below.
